National training workshop on clinical management of HIV and viral hepatitis co-infection

National training workshop on clinical management of HIV and viral hepatitis co-infection was conducted at the Infectious Diseases, AIDS and Clinical Immunology Research Center (IDACIRC), Tbilisi, Georgia on July 31 – August 2, 2013.

The workshop was supported by the World Health Organization Europe office.

The workshop was facilitated by the by leading European expert in the fields of HIV, viral hepatitis and their co-infections – Jurgen Rockstroh, MD. Dr. Rocktroh is a professor of medicine and head of the HIV Outpatient Clinic at the University of Bonn in Germany. He also services as a chair of German AIDS Society and an Executive Committee Member of the European AIDS Clinical Society. The workshop combined state-of-the-art lectures on HIV/HCV and HIV/HBV co-infections by Dr. Rockstroh, interactive sessions and case studies. Specialist from the IDACIRC and regional AIDS centers, as well as resident fellows attended the workshop.

Within the workshop recent advances in pathogenesis, diagnostics and treatment of HIV and viral hepatitis co-infection were covered. Also, participants discussed interesting clinical cases.
